Whether you are completely new to using a map and compass, or are looking for top-tips to perfect your skills in poor visibility and darkness, we can help you become safer and more confident in the mountains.

Seeking more confidence in poor visibility and darkness? Or never seen a map before? Searching for the confidence to plan your own mountain runs? We can organise a bespoke teaching day to suit your needs! This can be incorporated into a bigger hill day. Topics covered can include:
- Grid references
- Contour lines and interpretation
- Calculating distances
- Using a compass to take bearings
- Walking on a compass bearing
- Navigation strategies including timing, pacing, terrain descriptions, attack points and catching features.
- Relocation – interpreting our surroundings to work out where we are on a map
- Night navigation
Beginners Navigation Day
Inverness, Glasgow and Aberdeen
3 hours, £25 per person, 1:4 Ratio
These extremely popular sessions are back for 2020! This 3-hour session is the perfect introduction for those with little or no navigation experience.
