Beginners Navigation Day
Duration: 3 hours
Ratio: 1 to 4
Cost: £25 per person
BUGHT PARK, INVERNESS
Saturday 14th November 0900-1200
Saturday 14th November 1230-1530
We can also run the course privately at any location across Scotland, for a minimum group size of 4 (or £100).
This 3-hour session is the perfect introduction for those with little or no navigation experience. The perfect first step if you are looking to work towards planning your own mountain adventures!
The locations selected for these urban-based courses offer plenty of features to learn the essentials, meaning we can maximise on learning time without the need for distant travel. A small group ratio of 1:6 means there will be plenty of time for practice and individual tips/feedback. Your instructor Anna is an experienced Mountain Leader and has competed in multiple navigation running races.
Topics covered will include:
- Grid references
- Contour lines and interpretation
- Calculating distances
- Working out where you are on a map
- Using a compass to take bearings
- Walking on a compass bearing
What to Bring
You must bring your own compass. This is in an excellent investment to make! I will provide each person with a laminated map which we will use throughout the session. Dress according to the weather . Trainers are suitable for footwear, although you may prefer walking boots with ankle support as we will be going off the paths.
The meeting point and time will be confirmed depending on your specific course
